DAVE "REDS" WALTERS
Dave was born in Mount Holly, NJ, in 1948 and grew up in Moorestown, NJ. Dave graduated from Moorestown High School in 1966. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam War from 1968-1969 in the 25th Infantry Division as an SP5 stationed in the Iron Triangle, earning the Iron Cross.
After the Army, Dave spent a lifetime working in the newspaper industry at the Bulletin, Courier Post, and then the Philadelphia Inquirer until he retired in 2010. Throughout his working career, Dave was a continuous volunteer serving others. He was the President of the Moorestown Emergency Squad, a
30-year veteran of the Moorestown Fire Department, and a Fire Inspector.
After retirement, Dave began volunteering in Veteran initiatives, representing Veteran information at booths and demonstrations to help educate about Agent Orange support groups and available benefits. He was an avid campaigner for the prisoners of war killed in Vietnam (POW-MIA) returning home, the Wall That Heals, the American Legion, and Rolling Thunder, where he remained an active member until his passing.
Dave loved riding his motorcycle, enjoyed Deep Sea fishing, reading biographies and James Patterson novels, listening to music, woodworking, and enjoying wildlife, especially the chipmunk outside of his apartment, 'Jeronimo'.
